Consumer Unit Upgrades

Your consumer unit, often called a fuse box, is the control centre of your electrical system. It distributes power around the property and protects against faults. Older fuse boxes may not offer the protection that modern units do, and may struggle to keep up with today's electrical demand.

We replace old fuse boxes and outdated consumer units with modern ones. A consumer unit upgrade is a separate job from a rewire, and upgrading one does not automatically mean your property needs rewiring. Get in touch and we'll talk through what's right for your property.

Common questions

  • You may need an upgrade if your consumer unit is outdated, damaged, lacks suitable protection or cannot adequately accommodate changes to your installation. An assessment can determine whether replacement is advisable.

  • A suitable modern consumer unit can provide improved protection through appropriate devices such as RCDs or RCBOs and, where required, surge protection. The condition of the existing wiring must also be considered.

  • Many domestic replacements can be completed within a day, although the time required depends on the installation, circuit condition, testing and any remedial work needed.

  • Yes. Appropriate electrical installation certification and test results will be provided for the completed work in accordance with the applicable requirements.
